It was extremely difficult for me to quiet my mind when I first started meditating. Four kids, two jobs, running a house, animal hospital, and sheep farm kept my mind active. I won't bore you with all my failed attempts with staring at a flame, etc. so I'll jump to my first successful meditation. It was in the middle of the afternoon when I was the only one home. I put spa music on my google home device and sat on the couch. I put earphones in and then googled on my phone, Guided Meditations to Meet My Spirit Guide. It was about 5 minutes long and it kept my attention. Every time my mind switched to what was going on at home I heard the spa music and it brought me back to the meditation. It was awesome and I still remember that meditation like it was yesterday, however I knew I didn't have time to do that whole set up again. And to have 5 quiet minutes in the afternoon is very rare. So I came up with a fool proof way of meditating!
1. Set alarm for half an hour to an hour before you start your day.
2. Either sit up in bed if you're alone, or go into another room and sit in a chair or a couch.
3. Do not talk or turn on any lights from bed to sitting. (flashlight on phone is fine if you need to see where you're walking.) Do NOT go on social media or check emails on your phone.
4. Put on a blanket if you're cold.
5. Put in earphones and google 5 minutes guided meditation. Scroll through and pick one. If you're not happy with it - change it!
Some meditations move too slow for me and some too fast. Some people have a high pitch voice, some mumble, some are nasally, and some are just boring. Don't give up! If you haven't found one that works, it's either because you haven't looked at enough or it's just an excuse to say you tried and couldn't do it. If you're a busy person and can juggle a lot at one time, I would assume you have a pretty strong and determined mind. Your mind isn't any weaker or busier than the next person. Darker rooms may be easier to meditate in to start. Also try not to meditate around another person or around any animals. They can interrupt your mind.
